Beth Rigby - Interview Iain Anderson (Stonewall)

Updated: Aug 30, 2023

On 20th July, Beth Rigby interviewed Iain Anderson, the current Chair of LGBT support group Stonewall. Beth was essentially asking Mr Anderson to explain the groups position in regard to the topical debate if trans women should be seen as, and accorded the same rights as biological women.

Mr Anderson continued to refer to government legislation whilst refusing to clarify Stonewalls position in support of the rights of trans women. It has been widely speculated that Stonewall focus on the rights of the lesbian and gay community as in some way more valid, substantive, credible than that of the trans community, who are uncommitted, unclear and playing at some form of gender dress up.

To generalise all trans women a a potential threat to 'real' women shows a lack of understanding as to what being transgender really means. This is the same pathway as stating all those of Jewish faith are a threat or all people of colour are naturally criminally inclined....have we not moved on from categorising peoples behaviour or characteristics by race, social status or gender.

To generalise all trans women as a potential threat to the safety of 'real' women shows a lack of understanding as to what being transgender really means. This is the same pathway as stating all those of Jewish faith are a potential threat to civilised society or all people of colour are naturally criminally inclined. Have we not moved on from categorising peoples behaviour or characteristics based on race, social status or gender.
